What Previous Students SayThe lessons and exercises prompt and evoke memories, experiences and adventures; events, incidents and accidents; thoughts and relationships during and about my life. Through writing, the course has helped me move through the residue of some long-ago grief over the death of my marriage and relationship with my husband. - Robyn Hutchinson 2008 (Comment on the Year long course) What worked: Just about everything! Loved the phone call, especially that we were connected with Vicki across the world, and of course you to lead the discussion so effectively. The exercises were well thought out, effective. Feedback was prompt, interesting, helpful, sincere. Warmth, welcoming, genuine feeling; the real McCoy. - Yamuna Johnson 2006 I enjoyed that it pushed me to remember and write about things that I had forgotten. I liked that it provided motivation to keep writing. The lessons were great in that they took me all over different areas of my life that I would not have chosen on my own Thank you for creating this medium of art and expression and for your sensitive and caring feedback. - June Davidson 2007 The opportunity to write my story within the discipline of Storyworks has been an invaluable experience for me. The constructive formulae of exercises especially in order of decades and themes have given me the opportunity to complete my life story. The opportunity to hear others stories through the calls has been an inspirational experience Thank you Bridget for your wonderful course, your encouraging words and feedback. This humble student salutes your passion and commitment to giving us this opportunity to express our true selves and life stories. - Diane Titterton 2006 I feel that 'writing' my life is also like 'righting' my life - setting it out before me, so I can look at and understand the reason for decisions I have made throughout the years I have been writing about. - Jan Leishman 2007 The first two lines of my intention statement reads:I want to appreciate my life and add value to my life by shining the light of awareness through writing stories. I want to experience art through my stories and understand that the words are not different from me. This is my experience, that the stories are a part of me and in that telling, I am expressing a part of myself in a very tangible way - Tara 2006 I found the joy of letting the pen cover the page was such a release. I realized that writing my life story is reachable and I really enjoyed delving into my past. - Janice Iredale 2007 What did I like most about the workshop? Everything! - Herb Larratt 2007 Right from the beginning I loved it I found my fingers flying over the keys and I was often astonished at what came out. In the second half of the course we continued with our decades and also wrote to themes: friendship, relationships, work, spirituality, travel, farewells. Another thing that surprised me is how much I had to say about my 30's and 40's - years I would previously have said contained nothing much more than work, study and paying off the mortgage. I have enjoyed everything about the course. It was a great decision on my part to recognise that this would be a strong and creative way of dealing with my transition to retirement. I look back to how terrified I was reading my work on the conference
calls. I quickly realised the others were just as apprehensive. The support
from the other students and from Bridget and Jacqueline created a safe
place to 'let go'. The written feedback was very important to me. I cannot
imagine doing the course without it. - Jill Gibbons 2008 Last Modified: January 15, 2009 |
